Sarang Plant Pot and Stand

Sarang is a series of plant pots and stands designed in collaboration with furniture designer, Desmond Lim.

‘Sarang’, meaning nest in Malay explores a sculptural take on the pot stand archetype. The ceramic pot is notched at the base allowing it to located and perch securely onto a 3 legged base.

With green indoor spaces being more important than ever due to people spending more time at home. The Sarang plant pot and stand offer a decorative solution to present our beloved house plants as sculptural objects.

In this homeware range, designer Desmond Lim applies the processes and aesthetics explored in his furniture designs which involve the joining of traditional woodworking techniques with casted elements.

The stoneware pot is slip cast with pre-moulded indents that matches the geometry of the wooden stand perfectly. As the ceramic pot shrinks and moves when fired in the kiln, it makes it difficult to fit onto something like wood which also moves but at a much slower rate over time. The geometry in which the wooden stand is constructed allows for both materials to shrink and move while still maintaining a perfect locating fit.

The Sarang series currently comes in two sizes, the small is suitable for use on table surfaces and the medium being suited for both floor and tabletop displays.

They also come in two choices of wood, Ash or Sapele can be paired with either a raw off white stoneware or stained stoneware which has a warm grey tone. The stoneware pots are high fired with a clear glaze on the inside of the pot. All pieces are handmade in London by Desmond Lim studio and Bridgette Chan.
